Quite often I make the mistake of booking weddings in the diary and not really considering the logistics until closer to the event. This weekend was one of those. My poor car. Sorry Bernie (the Berlingo). I do give him a hammering. If he could speak he’d probably not complain however because he gets to see some incredible sites along the way.

Wedding Singer Yorkshire, Malton

We packed the car up and travelled over to Settrington, a little village between York and Malton, home to the utterly stunning 18th Century manor house The Orangery at Settrington. Because this venue hosts only 12 weddings a year they have time to concentrate on every single bride and groom who walks through their door. Nick and Sabrina hired me for their drinks reception, half of which was indoors before we headed on to the patio for photos and more music. Sabrina’s family had travelled from France for the wedding and had asked me to learn La Vie En Rose. I opted for the English version to save my blushes in trying not to utterly butcher the beauty of the French language.

Wedding Singer, Bradford

I threw my gear in the car and hot footed it over to Chris and Hydi’s evening reception at The Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford. Chris and Hydi hired me some time ago and over a period of time I’ve come to know them as friends. They are a lovely couple. Chris hid his light under a bushel somewhat by spontaneously asking me if he could play my guitar. He sang It’s All About You to Hydi. Aw, what a soppy romantic. No need to hire a wedding singer in Yorkshire for them, he could have done it all himself.

The Cumbria Grand Hotel, Wedding Singer

My couples are full of surprises. I remember an initial conversation with Ella, our bride on Sunday at The Cumbria Grand Hotel, in which she said she sang herself. But it wasn’t until the evening of her reception when she got up and belted out a full on rendition of Feeling Good that I’d remembered us talking about it. Not to be upstaged, her new father in law got up too and gave us a bit of ear sauce with his own take on Suspicious Minds (complete with shaking leg).

Indie Music at Weddings

I LOVED this wedding mostly because I got to play all the songs I absolutely adore. I just love a packed dance floor to Disco 2000 and Common People and these guys were well into their 90s indie stuff. Thoroughly enjoyable. Vlog below.
