Falling Foss
Falling Foss Tea Rooms, Whitby

It was a scorching day on Friday, a beautiful day for a drive across the North Yorkshire Moors to the beautiful land of Whitby. Michael and Lisa hired me back in June 2016 to play at their Woodland Wedding. This is an area I specialise in since I am able to provide a style of music that fits this venue and I’m able to do it outdoors too.

Michael and Lisa chose Falling Foss as their venue, a tea garden down in the valley of a beautiful woodland with a waterfall. It was a truly beautiful location, a hidden gem where visitors can relax with a drink after a long walk through the North Yorkshire trails. The venue has a wooden pagoda providing a permanent structure for a civil ceremony. There’s a bar and wooden benches around.

I played for Lisa as she walked down the aisle. She chose Kodaline’s The One as her aisle track and Better Together by Jack Johnson for walking back up the aisle. I played while people enjoyed entertainment from a birds of prey display.

After the food was served I played a final set. The couple were joined on the bark filled make-shift “dance floor” to enjoy their first dance to With Me by Sum 41, a song I learned for them. My final set was a mixture of folk music with people singing along or just listening in the baking sun.

I enjoy being involved in weddings where the structure is different. Hotel weddings work to strict timetables whereas Boho weddings tend to work to a flow of the day. That’s what I enjoyed most about Lisa and Michael’s day. No pressure, just great music and company with the guests.

I met Lisa (not the bride) of Drawn by Light Photography who it turned out doesn’t live too far from me. I’m looking forward to receiving some of her images of the day.

Congratulations to Michael and Lisa, their highlight reel is below.
