Live Wedding Music at The Crab and Lobster, Thirsk – Dawn & Warwick’s Yorkshire Wedding
Dawn and Warwick's final dance at The Crab and Lobster in Thirsk

Late September at The Crab and Lobster in Thirsk brought one of those golden autumn weddings where everything just fits. Dawn and Warwick, an effortlessly warm couple, had planned a relaxed day full of laughter, music, and connection — and I was lucky enough to be part of it as their wedding singer, guitarist, and host for the full day.

The day began in the Crab and Lobster’s garden area, where guests gathered for the ceremony surrounded by the venue’s quirky charm and countryside calm. I played live acoustic music as everyone took their seats, setting an easy mood before the moment Dawn walked down the aisle. One of the most touching parts of the day came when I was joined by Dawn’s daughter, Jennifer, who sang Songbird by Eva Cassidy. I accompanied her on guitar, and the emotion in the garden was unmistakable — a memory that will stay with me for a long time.

As the temperature dipped, the celebrations moved indoors for the drinks reception. I went unplugged in the bar area — moving between groups, taking requests, and chatting with guests. One conversation turned into an impromptu music lesson when someone asked how I could possibly know so many songs. I explained that most popular songs share the same skeleton of chords — the real character comes from the melody and production that dress it up.

During the wedding meal, I continued performing acoustic favourites while guests enjoyed their food. My interactive QR code request system kept the atmosphere lively — people could send their song choices straight from their table, and there were some brilliant picks from the ’80s and ’90s. The energy built beautifully, and just before dessert, the brilliant magician Tim Lichfield joined us with a short after-meal show that had everyone laughing and clapping.

When evening came, the room was turned around for dancing. Laurence from Audio Events Ltd took over on DJ duty, kicking things off with I’ll Never Love This Way Again by Dionne Warwick for the couple’s first dance. From there, I launched into my evening set — a lively mix designed to get everyone on their feet. We finished on my signature closer, It’s All About You by McFly, with every guest singing along. There’s a moment near the end of the video clip (which you can watch below) where the happy couple and the guests are waving their phone lights in the air, belting along with the song. Perfection.

After their honeymoon, the couple left a review that really summed up the day:

“Thank you so much for making our special wedding day at the Crab Manor even more perfect. Your interactions with our wedding guests were absolutely brilliant and your singing provided the perfect atmosphere. We have received so much positive feedback from guests. Thank you also for accompanying our daughter – it really was the icing on the cake for us. We would highly recommend Steven for any occasion – absolutely excellent entertainer – funny, talented and very professional. Many thanks, Warwick and Dawn.”

It was an honour to share in such a joyful day at one of my favourite Yorkshire wedding venues. The Crab and Lobster in Thirsk is the perfect spot for couples who want something full of character — and it’s always a pleasure bringing live wedding music to a venue that feels so alive.

If you’re planning your own celebration and looking for live music for your wedding in Yorkshire, I’d love to help you create those same unforgettable moments.
