Kirsty and Simon – 21st April 2017
I had an unexpected wedding crop up this past weekend. A colleague of mine was unable to fulfil his commitments at a wedding on Friday due to his partner giving birth (a more than suitable reason I feel. Don’t judge him) so he asked me to stand in. Since we offer similar services and know each other very well I agreed to take a trip across the York to The Parsonage Hotel and Spa in Escrick to provide full day entertainment for Kirsty and Simon as their Yorkshire Wedding Singer. It turns out we walk in very small circles. Kirsty and Simon had seen me at a wedding last year and decided that they wanted something similar at theirs but not exactly the same as their friends. That meant that I got to meet Charlotte and Jon from their wedding last year and the bride and groom were very happy because they knew what they were getting in my services. Additionally I walked through the door of the hotel and holding the door open for me was the site manager who I used to work with 10 years ago. Such a weird coincidence. Full of old connections.
I sang for them at the drinks reception and offered live music for their evening. It was the first time I’ve sing Perfect by Ed Sheeran for a first dance but I’m pretty sure it won’t be the last. It’s going to be a massive song this year.
Their guests were hungry for the dance floor so as I went up for my second set in the evening the guests followed and ate up the indie stuff which meant I ended up playing my second set for 90 minutes. I enjoy doing that when people are having a good time. Have a look at the video below to see people up, dancing and singing along.
Congratulations Kirsty and Simon, it was a pleasure to perform for you.
Matthew and Rebecca – 22nd April 2017
Less unexpected was my trip to Hull to be Yorkshire wedding singer for Matthew and Rebecca on Saturday night. They had booked me from a wedding fair last April. A quiet, unassuming couple who love live music (good) and particularly Ed Sheeran who made his second appearance as a first dance this weekend, this time Thinking Out Loud although Matthew did tell me he had considered changing it to Perfect but had had some engravings done with the words of Thinking Out Loud on it so had decided to stick with that. I sang Perfect for them anyway as well.
The Triton Inn is a lovely small venue with a big foyer area so there are plenty of places for guests to roam around. While I set up it was a nice surprise to be greeted by the fantastic Jonathan Paul Magician who entertained guests early in the evening. I also got to meet Luke Holroyd, a young man from Leeds who was photographing their event. He took the picture of me singing featured here and a good one it is too.
The highlight reel below shows what a great time we had. Have a look and like, comment and share if you think someone would love to have the Yorkshire wedding singer at their event
