When Chris and Natasha first got in touch, one thing was clear: live music was going to be at the heart of their wedding day. Indie music runs through their story, and that theme showed up everywhere — even the tables were named after their favourite bands: The Stone Roses, Oasis, and The Smiths. I knew straight away this was my kind of crowd.
Their venue, Everingham Park near York, set the perfect tone — a stunning country house with its own deconsecrated Catholic church on site. The plan was unique: two ceremonies in one day. The morning began with a civil ceremony in the house itself, intimate and personal. Later, guests moved across to the old church for a beautiful family ceremony led by celebrant Rachel Meyer — a space filled with character and warmth.
I provided live acoustic music for both parts of the day, keeping things mellow and heartfelt during the first ceremony before lifting the mood later with a full sing-along to L.O.V.E. by Nat King Cole. The sound of everyone joining in filled the church — laughter, clapping, a few tears. It was one of those moments that sums up why I love performing at weddings.
Afterwards, I moved into wedding breakfast mode, performing a chilled mix of indie favourites and requests that came in through my QR-code request system. There were some brilliant choices — Fake Plastic Trees and (Everything I Do) I Do It For You were two that stood out and hit perfectly.
When evening arrived, I teamed up with a DJ to create a proper indie wedding party. Two live sets, a packed dance floor and some of the biggest sing-alongs of the night — Mr Brightside, Don’t Look Back in Anger, Sex on Fire. The energy was unreal.
A few days later, Chris and Natasha sent an email that completely made my week:
“Everyone was so impressed and loved everything about the day, but literally everyone has commented on how amazeballs you were! The most popular question of the night was: ‘Where did you find this guy? He’s brilliant!’”
Moments like that remind me what this job’s all about — creating soundtracks that couples and guests actually feel.
Performing at Elvington Park for Chris and Natasha’s double ceremony was a day full of joy, energy and everything that makes indie wedding music in Yorkshire so special.
